From: About.com Pregnancy Childbirth

We often talk about labor and birth as being a special, private
time as a couple. It's actually more like you, your husband and 25
of your new best friends. When it comes times for you to give
birth, you'll want to know who is around you and what your options
are for bringing your own personal support. From doctors to nurses,
midwives, doulas, students and more! Who was at your birth?

Hospitals Turning Away Laboring Women
There is a law that states you cannot be turned away for hospital
care in labor - for any reason. This is for every
state and every hospital. This is why it is so
appalling to hear the stories of two women claiming that they were
both sent away from the hospital emergency room in preterm
labor. Both went home but wound up delivering their
babies soon thereafter and the premature babies died. You know your
body. You know if you need help. Do not
let someone send you home if you think you are in labor,
particularly preterm labor. Ask to speak to the
supervisor. Ask for the attending
physician. Talk to your doctor or
midwife. Ask for the patient advocate.Â

cord over and go on about helping the baby be born. Pain and
Missing the Epidural Window Some moms are worried about getting to
the hospital too late to get an epidural. But is there really a
window for epidurals? The truth is most women get to the hospital
too early. Not Knowing You're in Labor I hear this one in
childbirth class a lot. The good news is that there are signs of
labor to watch for at the end of pregnancy. Knowing what to look
for can relieve the anxie...
